On Thursday, May 5, Grammy Award winner and world-renowned jazz superstar, Paul McCandless, joins Bay-Area Jazz Trio, Charged Particles, to heat up THE Jazz Club in Cloverdale.

This performance will feature the music of Lyle Mays. Lyle Mays, born Lyle November 27, 1953 in McAllister, Wisconsin; died February 10, 2020, was an American jazz pianist and composer best known as the co-creator of the Pat Metheny Group. Metheny and Mays composed and arranged nearly all of the group’s music, for which Mays won eleven Grammy Awards.  Mays was nominated for four others for his own work.

During a distinguished career spanning six decades, Paul McCandless has brought a soaring lyricism to his playing and composing that have been integral to the ensemble sound of two seminal world music bands, the Paul Winter Consort and the relentlessly innovative quartet, OREGON. A gifted multi-instrumentalist and composer, McCandless has specialized in a broad palette of both single and double reed instruments that reflect his grounding in both classical and jazz disciplines.

McCandless will be joined at THE Jazz Club by Charged Particles. The most exciting and creative music being made today crosses stylistic boundaries and blends diverse traditions to create engaging new sounds.

This performance will be at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance Gallery, located at 204 N. Cloverdale Blvd. Tickets are $20 for Cloverdale Arts Alliance members and $25 for non-members. Doors open at 7:00 pm; music begins at 7:30 pm. THE Jazz Club takes place the first Thursday of each month from January through May.
